Sarah Marzes

Press release from the Leroy Anderson Foundation:

(WOODBURY) - The Leroy Anderson foundatoin will host a series of presentations titled, Exploring the Creative Process, at the Leroy Anderson House, 33 Grassy Hill road.

Vocalists, instrumentalists, poets, and visual artists will share how they found their passion for their art medium, how they develop their projects, and how others might find their way into the art.

The presenters will create the opportunity for guests to try their hand at participating in the art they discuss.

Composer and vocalist Sarah Marze, pianist Emma Bocciarelli, flutist Ann Aldrich, and the Voice Box conductors Will Mandelbaum and Audrey Rivetta and choir will present on musical composition and the process of setting words to music at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 27.

They will invite guests to participate in an open workshop of Ms. Marze's new musical composition for choir, piano, and audience participation, featuring lyrics by Woodbury Poet Laureate Sandy Lee Carlson.

"No previous musical experience is necessary to participate in our world premiere and experience the joy of making music together," Ms. Marze said.

The presenters are recent UConn graduates who earned bachelor of arts degrees in music.  While an undergraduate, Ms. Marze wrote Let Us Sing, a book of six art songs for young voices that are musical settings of six Connecticut poets' works.

She, Ms. Bocciarelli, and tenor Conor Shirshac performed works from the book at Woodbury Public Library as part of the library's Celebrating Poetry Day.

The event is free.  Reservations are required and may be had by emailing leroyandersonfoundation@gmail.com.
